As any chocoholic will tell you, good chocolate has no peer. Like caviar, truffles and parmesan, anything but the best is a pale imitation. You can scoff down handfuls of average chocolate and it won’t elicit the sense of satisfaction as savouring one block of quality. In case you haven’t noticed by now, I’m kind of into sugar, chocolate in particular is the object of my devotion in the neverending the quest to find the perfect dessert. With this in mind I set out to find the best chocolate desserts Dubai has to offer and called upon my local friends within the UAE for their recommendations to see if their opinions matched mine. I also opened the question up my instagram to see which dessert destinations would rule the pack. I was not disappointed. Tap the headings for the socials and contact details of each venue. These are the top picks, in no particular order: CioccolatitalianiIf you’re looking to live your life in the midst of decadent gelatos, chocolate cakes and desserts topped off with that essential cup of espresso then Cioccolatitaliani is a great option. I’ve demolished the Crepe Lattefuso which is simply divine and will definitely return to give the rest of their desserts and cakes a go. You can also order a cup of plain melted chocolate which is a simple yet rare offering that allows chocolate lovers to fully enjoy their favourite indulgence in its purest form. SwitchSwitch is a must visit. Even if you’re not into desserts, the food and service is awesome. Come hungry and order a wide range of options (like camel burgers!) before tucking into delicious desserts. Somehow you never need to wait more than 15mins on your order even though it always seems packed. How do they do it? Other restaurants could learn a thing or two and the tablet menus have photos of every meal so you know exactly what to expect. In any case, in terms of chocolate desserts, the layered ‘Black and White’ which comes with a syringe full of chocolate – is a winner. Other great options are the Lotus cheesecake and the Pistachio Lava Cake which is next level good. The Cocoa RoomThis breakfast only venue (open daily from 8am-11am) is a bit of a hidden gem as it’s situated inside Slider Station inside the Galleria Mall. Probably best known among sweet toothed fans like myself for its range of pancakes and hot chocolates – the salted caramel with burnt marshmellows is the biz. There are also many waffle and freshly made donut options to enjoy. L’eto CaffeThis recommendation has come up time and time again. L’eto is situated in both the Dubai Mall as well as the Mall of Emirates and its display of desserts is quite impressive so I’m happy to find out that the desserts themselves live up to appearances. Recommended cakes include the Dark chocolate cake, Dolce de Leche, Milk cake and Honey Cake - will give this one a try soon but for now I’ll leave you with these visuals. Yummy in my TummyThis spot is not for the faint hearted and for serious chocoholics only. When I first heard of them, the closest branch was situated in Al Mamzer, I literally “followed up” every couple of months to find out when they’d be opening up in Dubai and if they’d started a delivery service yet so when they finally opened a branch in Jumeirah you can guess who was one of the first in line to try these heavenly creations. Again I feel like it’s my duty to inform you that these desserts are seriously sweet however it will give you the ultimate chocolate high and then some - so it’s well worth the journey (well if you’re situated Downtown it does tend to feel like a *journey* for lazy people like myself, ya know?) Try the liquid chocolate-filled Dragon Ball if you dare.
Other venues that deserve a special mention include the Cheesecake factory (of course) although I suspect that most people have tried this already and know that it’s good, Magnolia Bakery, Sugar factory (haven’t been yet), Gossip Café (so keen to try here, will review as soon as I do), Ice Cream Lab, Katerinas, Serendipity. There were quite a few more submitted but these were the ones which kept coming up - looking forward to getting to them all.
