It was announced this week that finally Marvel has created its first Muslim superhero and guess what? It’s a girl!
In an interview with BBC Marvel Studios President said that Marvel cinematic Universe would be including Ms Marvel who's identity is 16 year old Kamala Khan, a Muslim girl from New Jersey.
After discovering her own superhero powers by shape shifting and lengthening her arms and legs, she dons a red, blue and yellow costume before kicking ass. And in the meantime she juggles her medical studies and her family's expectations. The character was created by Sana Amanat and was inspired by her own life growing up in New York.
What brought on Marvel's decision for a more diverse superhero army? Could it have something to do with realising that cultural diversity opens up a whole new world of box office bucks especially with Black Panther's massive 1.3 billion dollar success at cinemas? Maybe, maybe not but then again, does it really matter? I think it’s definitely a huge leap in the right direction.
Super excited to see how it turns out.
